Withdrawal From the College
A student who discontinues study at Loras College must formally notify the college by contacting the Academic Success and Retention Coordinator or the Registrar’s office and completing the withdrawal form. For students who officially withdraw the withdrawal date shall be either the date the withdrawal form was submitted or the date immediately following the conclusion of the term in which the form was submitted. Students indicate their intended withdrawal date on the official withdrawal form. The official withdrawal date is used to calculate tuition owed and any refunds for which the student is eligible.
If a student fails to notify the College of their intent to withdraw and does not submit the withdrawal from, this is considered an unofficial withdrawal and the student will be administratively withdrawn from the institution. A continuing student who does not register for fall or spring term courses by the end of the add period for that term and has not completed the withdrawal form or requested a leave of absence will be administratively withdrawn from the college. The effective date of the withdrawal shall be the date immediately following the conclusion of the prior term of enrollment.
A student withdrawing from the College must return the laptop computer to the Technology Center Help Desk. Failure to do so may result in legal action. The student is encouraged to contact the Business Office to verify any outstanding balance, the Financial Planning Office for information on loan repayment, and the post office to complete a change of address form. If the student resides in campus housing, they must contact the Residence Life staff to complete a check-out.
Important note: The date of withdrawal from the College reflects the official separation date for institutional purposes only and may not correspond with the last date of attendance used to determine the return of Title IV funds. When a student unofficially withdraws or stops attending courses, the institution will report to the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS) the last date of attendance in accordance with the Late Date of Attendance Policy.
Medical Withdrawal Policy
When a student is unable to complete a term due to significant medical or psychological issues, a medical withdrawal may be considered. The student must contact the Health Center and/or Counseling Center and may be required to submit additional documentation from off-campus healthcare providers. The Health Center and/or Counseling Center will collect and review the information provided and make a recommendation to the Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students.
If a withdrawal is granted, the student will receive a “W” on their transcript for the entire term. A partial withdrawal will not be granted. Loras College reserves the right to decide if a student will be allowed readmission to the college. If the student is readmitted, Loras College may also establish parameters for the return to campus/classes. Prior to returning to campus/classes, the student must contact the Health Center and/or Counseling Center for an assessment and may be required to submit documentation from their healthcare provider.
