L.BIO 535 - Advanced Microbiology Credits: 4
Microbiology at Loras College is a broad survey of microbial diversity and its impacts on human life, society, and the environment. The associated lab presents a series of modern and classic techniques for studying microbes. In the first half these techniques are applied toward the identification an unknown microbe. In the second half participants test their skills in several competitive, team-based challenges designed to reinforce the skills they obtained early on. By the end of the course, participants will be able to read and critique modern literature on applications of microbiology and feel comfortable stepping into professional lab settings. Masters students will complete an additional independent laboratory project and will lead primary literature discussions for undergraduate students.
