L.CRJ 276 - Restorative Justice Credits: 3
This course examines restorative justice as a transformative approach to addressing harm, crime, and conflict. Restorative justice emphasizes repairing harm, restoring relationships, and engaging affected parties, including victims, offenders, and communities, in collaborative decision-making. We will explore restorative practices in criminal justice settings, assess their effectiveness, and analyze critiques of the restorative justice movement. Students will engage in simulations and discussions to apply restorative concepts to real-world situations. This course is designed to encourage critical thinking about alternative methods to the retributive justice system and the role of communities, victims, and offenders in healing processes.
