L.LIB 230 - From Belief to Action: Mediation, Representation and Social Justice in Action-CT

Credits: 3

This course will look at the intersection of the Catholic faith with the quest for social justice in the contemporary world. Perception, belief and contemplation mediates and creates lived realities of the ephemeral into our existence. Through the praxis of religious doctrine, we see how concepts and mental representations are brought to life, how the teachings of Jesus, the Word of God, becomes the communion of all through action. This course will bring students to the lived reality of political, economic, and social injustices. It will examine how, in different diocesan contexts (e.g., Dubuque and others), Catholics have found resources in their faith to struggle against social injustice in varying ways. The course will equip students with the capacity to enact social change through and enhanced by Catholic Social Teaching, through hearing and being the Word of God.
