Coaching Leadership, M.A.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Master of Arts in Coaching Leadership program is designed to meet graduate educational needs by:

  1. Providing enhanced knowledge and expertise in strengthening, coaching theory, and legal/ethical business practices.
  2. Providing courses in contemporary issues and the psychology of athletes, which will facilitate your comprehensive coaching development.
  3. Providing an internship or capstone at a location of choice to increase your personal experience and sharing results via a synchronous online meeting.
  4. This 30-credit, fully online program can be completed at your own pace and as soon as 12 months.

Coaching Leadership Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Articulate an individualized coaching leadership philosophy inclusive of ethnic and diverse backgrounds.
  2. Evaluate and apply legal and ethical principles to decision-making in sport.
  3. Apply evidence-based physiological, skill development, and physical training principles to athlete development and performance enhancement.
  4. Apply psychological principles to enhance athlete well-being and performance.
  5. Demonstrate competency in the administrative aspects of coaching, not limited to external communications, revenue generation, legal aspects, and recruiting.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR ADMISSION AS A DEGREE-SEEKING STUDENT

Applicants must submit the following application materials to the Director of Admission: Graduate and Professional Education Programs, Loras College, 1450 Alta Vista, Dubuque, Iowa 52001:

  1. Online Graduate Program application: www.loras.edu/apply
  2. All official transcripts from each institution attended, including undergraduate and graduate. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and some level of coaching experience is required for admission.
    1. Applicants with less than a 3.0 GPA and/or no coaching experience must submit two letters of recommendation and a personal statement (outlining interests and professional goals) to megan.henderson@loras.edu in addition to the online application, resume, and official transcripts to be considered for admission.
  3. Current resume.

Deadlines are as follows:

Spring enrollment - all materials due by December 1
Summer enrollment - all materials due by May 1
Fall enrollment - all materials due by August 1
Applications submitted after these deadlines will be considered on an individual basis

THE OFFER OF ADMISSION

Immediately following receipt of all application materials, the file will be reviewed by the Director of Admission for Graduate and Professional Education Programs. The applicant will then be notified of an admission decision in their online Applicant Status Portal within one week. Please note that if admitted, and after payment of the confirmation deposit, enrollment in the program is contingent upon successful completion of a background check by the first day of class.
