This course examines literary works from various social and historical contexts that address issues of oppression and resistance, focusing especially on literature that reflects the experience of colonialism. Representative works include Shakespeare The Tempest, Aime Cesaire A Tempest, I, Rigoberta Menchu, Leslie Marmon Silko Ceremony, Alexander Solzhenitsyn One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Aldous Huxley Brave New World, Rebecca Solnit A Paradise Built in Hell.
Prerequisite: L.LIB-100; L.ENG 105 ; L.LIB-110; One course from L.LIB-130, L.LIB-135, or L.LIB-220
